Fall Garden Growing
Here's what is growing in my fall garden
Happy Fall! In celebration of the fall garden, I want to show you what is growing and what will continue to grow during the upcoming cool weather.
This is the first of my weekly newsletters that I will be sending out with garden related content. Upgrade to a paid subscriber and you’ll receive bi-monthly emails with cooking videos, the ability to vote on bonus content, and a private chat with me.
In our 7b zone in central Maryland, our first frost is usually somewhere between mid-October and early November. As someone who grows and harvests from her garden all year long, I like to maximize my garden space. Here is a break down of all of the crops growing in my garden this fall:
Warm-Weather Crops: These plants will continue to give me harvests until the first frost makes its arrival.
Tomatoes, Peppers, Ground Cherries, Cucamelons, Corn, Bush Beans, Peanuts
Cool-Weather Crops: These plants are able to withstand a light frost or two.
Broccoli, Peas, Saffron, Potatoes
Cold-Hardy Crops: These plants will actively grow during the fall and winter and I will be able to harvest from them even in the snow.
Cabbage, Pak Choy, Kohlrabi, Horseradish, Garlic
Cold Frame Crops: These are cold weather crops but I have shielded them from the frigid cold with a cold frame top.
Lettuce, Arugula, Spinach, Carrots, Radishes, Cilantro, Green Onions
There is nothing quite like harvesting from my winter garden when there is snow on the ground but I can wait. I’m squeezing out as much frost-free weather as I can for now.
